QUESTIONS

What is LYLBIOTIC?

It is a complex of lactobacteria, bifidobacteria and Saccharomyces with zinc and inulin. LYLBIOTIC is an efficient synbiotic as it combines probiotics with the prebiotic inulin. LYLBIOTIC contains 9 species of beneficial microbacteria recognizable to the human body: Lactobacillus reuteri, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus gasseri, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Bifidobacterium lactis, Bifidobacterium infantis, Bifidobacterium longum, Saccharomyces boulardii, prebiotic fiber inulin and zinc. Each capsule contains 11 billion colony forming units (CFUs). The bacteria in the complex are highly active. It is suited for prophylactic and acute use.

What are prebiotics and synbiotics?

Prebiotics are a dietary fiber – mainly inulin and its by-products oligofructose and galactooligosaccharides. Products that contain both of these bioactive compounds are called synbiotics. For example, lactobacillales and bifidobacteria together with inulin. Prebiotics feed the probiotics in the gastrointestinal tract, promote their growth and activity and are therefore beneficial for health. Unlike fructooligosaccharides (FOS), which are another often used prebiotic, inulin is favored only by good bacteria. FOS also feeds several species of bad bacteria that can cause bloating and flatulence. Inulin works in synergy with probiotics, meaning that they promote each other’s positive effects. Indirectly it helps prevent diarrhea and constipation, improves gut metabolism, prevents tumor formation, promotes fat metabolism, attracts minerals to the intestinal walls, promotes immunity. It is more efficient to use prebiotics together with probiotics (synbiotics), because they will have an intense symbiotic effect within the body.

Why does LYLBIOTIC contain a zinc supplement?

Zinc is beneficial in case of acute diarrhea, because it promotes rehydration, i.e. it helps restore fluids in the organism . Zinc is crucial in the treatment and prevention of acute infectious diarrhea, including rotavirus, and it promotes normal functioning of the immune system. LYLBIOTIC contains a special form of zinc – the amino acid chelate monomethionine variety. Zinc chelate is very readily absorbed; it does not disrupt the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract unlike other forms of zinc that can cause nausea among other side effects.

What is the recommended daily dose of LYLBIOTIC?

Each capsule contains 11.2 billion colony forming units (CFUs). In this regard, LYLBIOTIC is the most potent product available in Latvia as it contains the largest dose of microorganisms per capsule. An efficient dose is one capsule per day.

How do I use LYLBIOTIC ?

It is recommended to take LYLBIOTIC before a meal with a glass of water. Do not chew the capsule. Do not refrigerate the product. Store in a dry place at a temperature of no more than +25 0C.

What are colony forming units or CFUs?

Instead of milligrams or grams probiotic bacteria are usually measured in colony forming units. Milligrams or grams of bacteria do not reflect the efficiency of the product. The amount of colony forming units reflects the microbiological potential of the probiotic product, i.e. the amount of viable bacteria in the sample. The effects depend on the amount of bacteria included.

Why does the product contain several species of bacteria?

One species alone cannot perform the functions of all other species, although there is certain overlap. Bacteria have different places of adhesion in the gut. For example, lactic acid bacteria are most active in the small intestine, while bifidobacteria work best in the large intestine. Some bacteria like to form colonies on the intestinal wall, while others, such as Saccharomyces boulardii, attach themselves to nutrients in the intestinal tract. The more diverse the bacteria in the product, the more comprehensive its effect and benefits. In other words – what’s good for diarrhoea, isn’t good for immunity.
*Lactobacillus reuteri: Lactobacillus – genus, reuteri – species.

What does it mean that LYLBIOTIC contains highly active bacteria?

The effectiveness of a product does not only depend on the amount of colony forming units (measuring up against billions of competitors). LYLBIOTIC also contains highly active bacteria. High activity means the ability of the bacteria to produce lactic acid. The higher the better. Previous generation probiotics usually produce about 1% of lactic acid in 24 hours. New-generation probiotics produce twice as much and are significantly more effective. Lactic acid is a biopreservative produced in the intestines and it has antimicrobial properties.

Where is LYLBIOTIC manufactured?

LYLBIOTIC is manufactured in France upon the exclusive order of Latvian pharmaceutical company “pharma&med”. LYLBIOTIC is a unique formula, which has no equivalents in terms of content, amount of microorganisms and activity.

Why doesn’t LYLBIOTIC have to be refrigerated?

The product does not need to be refrigerated. They type of capsule used and its manufacturing technology ensure that the product can be stored at a temperature of 15 – 25 °C. It should be stored in a dry place, at a temperature not exceeding +25 °C.

Do LYLBIOTIC bacteria perish during storage?

The manufacturer of LYLBIOTIC guarantees 11.2 billion bacteria until the expiration date. EMBO CAPS Acid Protection® is a unique, patented plant-based capsule material that protects the bacterial cultures from adverse external effects during storage, as well as from gastric acid upon ingestion. The bacteria are in an especially stable freeze-dried form, and they are activated only when they reach the intestinal tract.

Do LYLBIOTIC bacteria not perish in gastric acid?

In order to guarantee that the contents of LYLBIOTIC reach the intestines, the product is packaged in capsules. EMBO CAPS Acid Protection® is a unique, patented plant-based capsule material that protects the bacterial cultures from adverse external effects during storage, as well as from gastric acid upon ingestion. The bacteria are activated only when they reach the intestinal tract.

Can I use LYLBIOTIC together with antibiotics?

LYLBIOTIC contains the microorganism Saccharomyces boulardii, which is naturally resistant to all antibiotics and can therefore be safely used together with antibiotics. Antibiotics do not reduce the effectiveness of S.boulardii, and vice versa – S.boulardii does not reduce the effectiveness of antibiotics. Studies even show that S.boulardii improves the effectiveness of antibacterial treatment. Furthermore, it is recommended to take S.boulardii together with antibiotics in order to improve the microbiome during treatment and thus reduce the development of antibiotic-induced diarrhea.

Is LYLBIOTIC safe for children?

LYLBIOTIC is suitable for use for children from the age of 3 or from when a child can swallow a capsule whole. The capsules must not be chewed, otherwise LYLBIOTIC does not guarantee the survival of all of the bacteria contained.

What are the most typical indications for LYLBIOTIC use?

1. prevents/reduces diarrhea caused by rotavirus, salmonellosis or antibiotics, and reduces lactose (milk sugar) intolerance;
2. reduces the amount of cancer-promoting enzymes and fermentation (bacterial) end products in the intestines;
3. prevents/reduces irregular disruption of gastrointestinal function in healthy individuals;
4. improves the gut microflora, reduces inflammation and other complaints caused by intestinal diseases, ulcers or predominance of bad bacteria;
5. normalizes bowel function for people suffering from constipation or irritable bowel syndrome;
6. prevents/reduces development of allergies and atopic dermatitis in infants;
7. prevents respiratory infections (common cold, flu) and other infectious diseases, including urinary tract infections and bacterial vaginosis;
8. reduces obesity;
9. there are currently few but promising data that probiotics prevent the formation of tumors, reduce cholesterol, improve oral flora, prevent dental caries, prevent/treat heart disease, improve health for patients with autoimmune disease, such as arthritis, as well as for patients with depression or other psychiatric disorders such as anxiety and chronic fatigue.

In what acute cases does LYLBIOTIC help?

+ Antibiotic-induced dysbiosis (disrupted bacterial balance);

+ Acute infectious diarrhea (incl. rotavirus);

+ Antibiotic-induced diarrhea;

+ “Traveler’s” diarrhea;

+ Diarrhea induced by Salmonella spp., Cl.difficelle, E.coli;

+ During treatment for H. Pylori (diarrhea).

When should LYLBIOTIC be used prophylactically?

+ Lifestyle-induced dysbiosis;

+ Upcoming change of environment (starting kindergarten or school);

+ Pregnancy (especially for women with allergies);

+ Intestinal disease (ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome);

+ Diet heavy in fast-food, processed food;

+ Obesity;

+ Eczema, atopic dermatitis;

+ Lactose intolerance;

+ Bacterial vaginosis;

+ Urinary tract infections;

+ Food allergies;

+ Psychiatric disorders, including depression, chronic fatigue, burnout;

+ Hay fever (allergic rhinitis);

+ Autoimmune disease (arthritis, type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, celiac disease).

Why is LYLBIOTIC recommended when starting kindergarten or school?

When a child starts school, he/she comes under attack by “foreign bacteria” which causes temporary diarrhea and other disruptions. In cases when a change of environment is anticipated, prophylactic use of probiotics is recommended. They will help the immune system adapt and fight off bad bacteria, and, in turn, gastrointestinal disruptions will be reduced.

Can LYLBIOTIC reduce urinary tract and vaginal inflammation?

The balance between lactic acid bacteria and bad bacteria can often be disrupted leading to vaginal inflammation – bacterial vaginosis or yeast infections (candidosis). In the former there is a misbalance between good and bad bacteria, whilst in the latter there is an overproduction of natural yeasts Candida spp. When used alongside antibacterial or antifungal therapy, LYLBIOTIC helps improves the vaginal microflora . LYLBIOTIC contains Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus reuteri, Lactobacillus casei and Lactobacillus gasseri which efficiently restore and maintain a normal vaginal microflora.

Is LYLBIOTIC suitable for treating all types of diarrhea?

The species of bacteria included in LYLBIOTIC are effective for the prevention and treatment of diarrhea caused by various factors. It is suitable for:

+ restoring normal bowel function after acute infectious diarrhea, incl. rotavirus;

+ environmental disruptions to gastrointestinal function (starting kindergarten, school, traveler’s diarrhea);

+ antibiotic induced diarrhea;

+ diarrhea caused by treatment for H.pylori stomach ulcer;

+ Salmonella spp., Cl.difficelle, E.coli induced diarrhea;

+ irritable bowel syndrome induced diarrhea;

+ diarrhea induced by exacerbation of ulcerative colitis.

Does LYLBIOTIC reduce constipation?

Probiotics improve intestinal motility and accelerate the emptying of the bowel (including intestinal transit) for people suffering from constipation.

Why does LYLBIOTIC reduce lactose (milk sugar) intolerance?

LYLBIOTIC contains probiotics with high beta-galactosidase activity. The bacteria in LYLBIOTIC help break down milk sugar, and prevent bloating and pain, as well as other symptoms associated with milk consumption.

How can LYLBIOTIC help during pregnancy?

A baby’s microflora is directly dependent on the mother’s microflora. It is especially important for allergic mothers to use probiotics in order to help prevent the baby from developing allergies. Probiotics, especially synbiotics, are also crucial in case of gestational diabetes. The British Journal of Nutrition recently published results of a study showing that after 6 weeks of use Lactobacilus acidophilus, L.casei and Bifidobacterium bifidum in combination with inulin reduced insulin levels, as well as low-density lipoproteins and triglycerides in pregnant women.

How long before a planned trip should I start using LYLBIOTIC?

Traveler’s diarrhea is a diagnosis characterized by diarrhea or constipation, abdominal pain and other gastrointestinal disruptions that most people develop as a result of being in an unfamiliar environment. When we travel, we come into contact with foreign bacteria, which leads to diarrhea and other issues. It is recommended that a course of probiotics be started approximately one week before a planned trip. This will help the immune system adapt quicker and fight off bad bacteria, thus reducing risk of traveler’s diarrhea.

Can the bacteria contained in LYLBIOTIC form colonies in the intestinal tract?

LYLBIOTIC contains bacteria of the Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium and Saccharomyces boulardi species, which can survive the acidic environment of the stomach and the aggressive effects of bile, thus reaching the small and large intestines where they start to live and form colonies.

How long do the effects of LYLBIOTIC last?

The probiotics contained in LYLBIOTIC have a positive effect on the intestinal microbiome and can also have an effect on the behavior of the microorganisms living there. The effects last 1-4 weeks, as shown by the probiotic content in feces.

What are lactobacteria?

There are more than 50 species of lactobacteria. They are naturally found in the gastrointestinal tract and the urogenital system. Lactobacteria are used in the prevention and treatment of various diseases and conditions. LYLBIOTIC contains 5 lactic acid bacteria, which have been officially recognized as probiotics: Lactobacillus reuteri, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus gasseri, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus.
They are effective in the treatment of fungal infections, bacterial vaginosis, urinary tract infections, irritable bowel syndrome, antibiotic-induced diarrhea, traveler’s diarrhea, diarrhea induced by Clostridium difficile, lactose (milk sugar) intolerance, skin conditions (eczema, acne, ulcers), respiratory infections.

What are bifidobacteria?

So far, 30 species of bifidobacteria have been discovered. Bifidobacteria are the predominant species of good bacteria in the large intestine. They appear in the intestines immediately after birth, and are especially prolific in case of natural childbirth (without a Cesarean section) and if the infant is breast-fed. LYLBIOTIC contains three bifidobacteria, which are all recognized as probiotics: Bifidobacterium lactis, Bifidobacterium infantis, Bifidobacterium longum. They can improve blood lipid levels and glucose tolerance, reduce symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, such as pain, discomfort, abdominal bloating and other gastrointestinal function disruptions.

What is Saccharomyces boulardii?

Saccharomyces boulardii is the only yeast probiotic. It is very resistant to heat and acid and secretes a number of unique, physiologically active factors. One of its clinically most important properties is its resistance to antibiotics. That means it can be used together with antibiotics. S. Boulardii is effective in case of various types of acute or chronic diarrhea in children and adults, antibiotic-induced diarrhea, traveler’s diarrhea, treatment and prevention of Cl.difficile. It is also effective in acne treatment and reduces the side effects of therapy for H. Pylori stomach ulcers. It is useful for HIV patients for treatment of diarrhea.

Is Saccharomyces boulardii the same type of yeast as those that can potentially cause yeast infections or yeast overgrowth?

No. Saccharomyces boulardii is not related to Candida albicans, C.tropicalas, C.krusie and other species of yeast that cause disease and yeast overgrowth in the gastrointestinal and urogenital tract. Candida yeasts reduce the acidity of the gastrointestinal wall causing it to become susceptible to potentially bad bacteria and yeasts. S.boulardii has the opposite effect – it produces lactic acid and other acids that block potentially malignant Candida yeasts. S.boulardii prevents the formation of Candida yeasts in the intestines.

Is LYLBIOTIC hypoallergenic?

The product does not contain artificial coloring, lactose or gluten, preservatives, salt or yeast. It is suitable for vegetarians. Suitable for diabetics. Does not contain allergens listed in Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council.

Can I use LYLBIOTIC together with prescription medication and other dietary supplements?

LYLBIOTIC has not been observed to interact with active substances and prescription medication. S.boulardii may interact with antifungal medication. Can be used in combination with other dietary supplements.

When should LYLBIOTIC not be used?

The bacteria contained in LYLBIOTIC are well tolerated, however, there are some contraindications where advice from a health care specialist should be sought prior to beginning use. Pregnant women should first consult a doctor. LYLBIOTIC may cause infection in immunocompromised patients (patients having received organ transplants, AIDS patients, patients with lymphoproliferative disorders or tumors). Do not use LYLBIOTIC if you have had a catheter (peripheral venous, central venous) placed. Do not use LYLBIOTIC if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.
